I was born and raised in New Hampshire, where I grew up with my parents and older brother. I graduated in 1998 from Salem High School in Salem, NH where I played football and baseball. Then I went off into the world!
I have previously worked in Columbia at E. L. Wright Middle School, where I taught 6th & 7th grade Social Studies. I then went to Hickory Tavern Middle in 2009, where I taught 7th & 8th grade Social Studies. In November 2010, I became a National Board Certified teacher! I was also honored to represent Hickory Tavern Middle school as the Teacher of the Year in the 2013 - 2014 school year, and in 2014 I was awarded a Social Studies Palmetto Teacher of Excellence by the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies.
In 2006, I married Anna Thompson (who is the principal at Laurens Middle School). We have two wonderful sons, Dylan and Will. They occupy most of our time, but we love every minute with our boys. Dylan and Will get along great with each other. As for me, I enjoy all sports, going to the movies, being outside, and spending time with my family. I have completed eleven marathons as well as three half-marathons. I love being active!
Colby College is in Waterville, Maine. While at Colby, I focused my studies in Government. I also took many History courses, though I did not earn enough credits for a major. I graduated Cum Laude with distinction in Government in 2002.
University of South Carolina
After working for a year, I decided to take the next step and go back to school to become a teacher. In December 2004, I received my Masters in the Arts of Teaching from the University of South Carolina.
